Unsurprisingly, native 4K content looks great. Crisp and bright with lifelike colours. Gradation isn’t quite as smooth as I’d have liked – I could sometimes detect subtle lines demarcating shifts in hue when presented a broad swath of a single colour (though it’s worth noting this isn’t nearly as apparent as it is on my Vizio set) – and reds sometimes felt a little oversaturated while operating in brighter picture modes such as Sports. But I generally noticed these issues only when I was looking for them. They were never a distraction while watching movies or playing games.

The effect of HDR – the 55UH85 supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision – was a little harder to get a handle on.

The first thing you need to do is turn HDR on for each individual HDMI input. It’s not as easy as it should be. I found this setting buried pretty deep in the configuration menu (strangely located far down under general settings rather than in picture settings). And it’s not called HDR, but rather Ultra HD Deep Color. Once you turn HDR on, the TV will restart. When HDR content begins playing you’ll see a little message pop up in the corner of your screen notifying you that you’re experiencing HDR.
